In cooperation with the University of Trier and Intermedia Design, we created a website for an online film festival. Everybody had the chance to watch 17 films that show everyday insights into the protagonists’ life and drawing attention to the fact that there are problems we share worldwide.

Transkulturelles Ethnografisches Kino:
Das Trierer Filmfestival!
The Goal
As COVID-19 had a huge impact on nearly every aspect of our lives, we wanted to create an event to enjoy. The goal was to create a cinema-like experience that brings joy to the user during these isolated times.
Setting up the website
We have been working on this project as a group of three people with each one having a different field of work. My part was setting up the website, importing the content, and implementing the design my colleagues created.
As the movies were intended to be available only for a short period of time, we had to create a solution for that. By signing up for the event the user had the possibility to get a password that allowed him to watch the movies since the movies themselves were implemented with Vimeo on the website.
Colors & Material
We settled for a combination of a dark moody blue and bright orange. The dark blue should resemble the atmosphere you expect from sitting in a cinema hall while waiting for the movie to start. The orange compliments the blue and draws attention to the eye to guide the user through the application.

Logo
Since the festival is all about ethnographic movies, the global and sociological aspect should be visible in the logo. Therefore we combined a globe with an old film tape. Both sides are stitched together with the foot of the globe to emphasize the aspect of being connected.
